Cracker Easter, But Missing The Tropics

We are in Mandurah, closing in on Perth at a fast rate. Free camping has dried up and we are in mid school holidays so caravan parks have pumped up the prices considerably.

So we left you guys hanging in Marges, well we didn’t end up getting any work as the grapes had been picked because of the unseasonably hot weather and the only free camping spot was a bit of a trek out of town, the spot was very nice, situated amongst farms nestled in between gums and on a natural freshwater pool.

Maggie trying to figure out why he cant get the cereal.

The surf continued to pick up and weather stayed rather dreary so we set off to Yallingup stopping at a few wineries and a chocolate factory on the way. We had numerous samples and Sarah picked herself up a bottle of chocolate liquor. (sickly for me by itself but good in coffee or milk)

At Yallingup the surf was even bigger than Marges, we planned to stay in the car park there but the wind was howling, shaking the car quiet violently and the surf sounded like thunder so we decided to head across to Dunsborough where it was protected but there was also no surf so the place was rather boring in comparison.

In the morning we checked out the sites, then stumbled across some wicked surf, it was pretty busy as I guess it was the only protected spot on the south coast but the surf was big, hollow and consistent.

We kept moving as the weather continued on with its miserable business, camping grounds were filling up for the Easter holiday and the rangers were on the ball, as we found out in Busselton when we were awoken by numerous solid thumps on the canopy and a written warning for sleeping in our vehicle in a public area. (Bloody do-gooders at the caravan park had apparently dobbed us in)
Oh by the way Busselton is where the bloke got taken by the white recently, 3 days before we were there in fact.

Over two kilometres of pier at Busselton.

We shot through the town of Bunbury, just another big town, (or small city, whatever you want to call it) and found a beautiful spot about 20km’s north of the city. Here we stayed over the Easter period, for free. Two nights behind the sand dunes to escape the wind and then the other four on the beach as the wind turned offshore and we had a very picturesque Easter holiday.

Cutting to the beach, if only I had a boat to make use of the weather.
Just another W.A. sunset.

We watched young and old hoon up and down the beach on quads, motos and on the back of utes and spent the days reading, swimming and fishing. The only thing we lacked was family, friends. (Sarah also lacked Easter eggs, but settled for 4 blocks of lindt and some nutella). Holidays really make you miss your family and friends, no matter how beautiful the beach you’re on and how beautiful the girl you are with, they don’t compare to a beer with your old man or a surf with your mates.

We were back on the road on Tuesday, and had our sights set on a campsite on Herron Point, we pulled in to find a lovely spot with a very friendly caretaker.

We settled in for a good night but as I was walking back from the men’s room I noticed a car with caravan in tow creeping very slowly and very closely to my car, and then I heard a nice bang and crash and saw my car shake and the driver jump out of the car. It turns out that was just the tip of the ice berg as that was just the end light. He had scraped the whole side of his brand new caravan along the corner of my bulbar causing extensive damage to his rig including smashing all lights on that side, breaking his power box and water inlets as well as the scratches and rather massive dents being about 60cm the whole length of the van.

Anyway the bulbar is fine, solid as a rock (surprising as I welded it up) and everyone kept their cool, well apart from the wife who went ape shit at him and anyone who dared try give any condolences.

And so that brings us to Mandurah, apparently the surf here has picked up a bit (dead flat yesterday) so I’m looking to wet my whistle.

Hope everyone’s Easter was superfantastic.

Bi!
